So you’ve taken the leap and started your application for Camp America? Congratulations, you’re about to embark on the adventure of a lifetime!
We know the application process can be a little intimidating at first; there’s a lot of information out there and it’s possible you’re not sure what to do next. Fear not, it’s actually quite simple!
1. Filling out your application
When you first fill out your application, it’s to help us in the office assess your skills and suitability to work at a summer camp in the US. We can help you work on making your application the best it can be later down the track, but this is the first step.
The skill section is pretty much the most important thing to us at this stage. We want to know how long you’ve been doing an activity, how often you do it and any specific skills you have in that area (for example, can you saddle the horse or eskimo roll the kayak?)
Your My Camp America page will tell you what you still have to complete on your application. Once you’ve filled out your application you need to select an interviewer, but you can do this before you have your references and police check.
2. Selecting an interviewer
That’s right, you can select an interviewer and set up and interview time before you have your references and police check!
Just click “interview” and select someone who interviews in your area. If there is no one available just select “Camp America”
3. Make any changes
Either your interviewer or someone from the office may ask you to make changes on your application. This could be the order of your skills or adding more information. You should try to do this as soon as possible to get to the next stage.
4. Set up your interview
Your interviewer will suggest a few times and dates for your interview. Let them know what is best for you and then accept the interview through My Camp America.
All of our interviewers have done the program themselves so they can also answer any questions about their experience at camp. However, if you have any administration based questions, visa questions etc please call the head office on 1300 889 067 or email info@campamerica.com.au.
5. The interview
The interview should be treated as any other job interview. The impression you make on our interviewer will go into your interview report, which over 900 camp directors will have access to once your application has been completed. You will be asked about your skills in more detail in addition to some general questions about yourself. They will also give you advice on how to complete your application.
If you already have your references or an existing Australian Federal Police check you should bring these along to your interview (the originals). If not you can send them to the Camp America office once you do.
And that’s it! Once you have completed your interview there are a few more steps you can take READ MORE
