The other day a friend of mine got a package from home; two jars of Vegemite and a tin of Milo. Within minutes every Australian in the camp had swarmed and was looking for anything to drown in vegemite and to mix with Milo. Others looked on in shock wondering how we could stomach let alone fall in love with Vegemite, but we didn’t care we loved every minute of it. I realised for the first time how much I miss the little things at home and how different we Australians are from Americans.

American portion sizes take some getting used to!

The first two things I noticed upon arriving in America was their patriotism, if there’s room for a flag somewhere there’s probably already one there and their love for peanut butter. You get so surrounded by food with peanut butter flavouring that you either learn to love it or starve; I’ve definetly become a lover. As much of a cliche as it is the Australian accent is an instant friendship maker over here and will also get you out of many things such as tipping incorrectly and holding up lines at stores as you sort through your change trying to figure out which coin is which.

As camp draws to a close with only a week left and the half way point of my time in America is reached I’ve come to love this place and all it’s crazy characters.
